(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE)
ROUND 5 PREVIEW: TURNER M6 GT3 OF CURTIS AND KLINGMANN HEADED TO MOTOR CITY.
Amesbury, MA. May 31st, 2017 — Following the successful weekend at Lime Rock Park, Turner Motorsport changes gears to prepare for round five of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on the 2.35-mile 14-turn street course of Belle Isle located inside the Motorcity of Detroit, Michigan.
The No. 96 Turner BMW M6 GT3 of Bret Curtis and Jens Klingmann is set for Saturday afternoon’s 100-minute Chevrolet Sports Car Classic which will mark the second street course race for GTD this season.
The driver pair will return back behind the wheel of their BMW M6 GT3 for the first time since Circuit of the Americas last month where they captured their strongest race result thus far this season with a strong fifth place finish.
Last year, the Turner M6 GT3s endured a hard fought battle on the streets of Belle Isle with numerous cautions on the extremely bumpy and narrow course. Despite the difficult race, Curtis and Klingmann were able to pull off a strong ninth place finish.
“Racing our BMW M6 GT3 on street circuits is a bit of a challenge for us,” said Jens Klingmann. “Last year we had a very hard fought race here at Detroit so I am hoping we can use what we learned last year and use it to our benefit this weekend. Bret and I have some built up momentum after our fifth place finish in Austin so hopefully we can score a podium in Detroit.”
On track action from Detroit begins on Friday, June 2nd for practice followed by WeatherTech Championship Qualifying with GTD starting at 4:55pm ET.
“Not sure how I feel about going to another street circuit , It’s another closed in opportunity for someone to leave their mark on us,” said Will Turner. “Hopefully it won’t be with us this time! I am also still concerned with the balance of performance (BOP). IMSA made some minor adjustments to the Mercedes for this race, not nearly enough in my opinion but I hope all the manufactures have a good fight for the win. Detroit is always a great venue ’ lots of BMW fans cheering us on so looking forward to the weekend.”
The No. 96 BMW M6 GT3 of Curtis and Klingmann will take the green flag at 12:40pm ET on Saturday for the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic which will be televised LIVE on Fox Sports 2.
