(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE)
STRONG EFFORT BY AUBERLEN AND FOLEY RESULTS IN SEVENTH PLACE FINISH ON STREETS OF DETROIT.
Amesbury, MA. — June 4th, 2018 — The Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 of Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley crossed the line in seventh position at the end of the 100-minute race on the 2.35-mile 14-turn street course on Detroit’s Belle Isle for round four of the 2018 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Auberlen returned behind the wheel of the No. 96 Turner BMW for the second consecutive race after re-joining with the blue and yellow at Mid-Ohio last month.
Auberlen was joined by Robby Foley, who made his debut in GTD with Turner this past weekend after testing with the team at Watkins Glen in May.
Foley took the green flag from eleventh position in Saturday’s race quickly finding a consistent pace allowing him to make up a position before the full course caution. Foley continued under green to complete his stint before handing over to Auberlen.
“It was great working with the Turner team and Bill (Auberlen) this weekend,” said Robby Foley. “We were able to work through some challenges with setup and come out of the weekend with a solid result, I will be looking forward to getting back in the M6 GT3 again soon.”
The team completed a successful full service stop to get Auberlen on track just two seconds behind the next car for position. Auberlen pushed on to make up several positions to work his way up inside the top-ten.
Ultimately, Auberlen was able to make up ground on the leading pack of the GTD field to cross the finish line in seventh position.
“It was a pleasure being back at the track with Turner Motorsport. Robby (Foley) did a great job behind the wheel of our BMW M6 GT3 to run a clean race to hand the car over,” said Bill Auberlen. “The entire team worked hard to give us a good car for the race and I have to say, all their work paid off in the race.”
Will Turner added, “Given how challenging Detroit can be, I am happy with our results and both the team and driver’s hard work in such a short and hectic weekend schedule. Specifically, I have to say Robby (Foley) did a fantastic job throughout the entire weekend and we look forward to working with him again.”
Turner Motorsport will return to racing action in just over three weeks for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen on Sunday July 1st.
Don Yount and Dillon Machavern will all re-join the Turner Motorsport team with 2014 GTD Championship winner Markus Palttala behind the wheel of the No. 96 BMW for the third round of the Patron North American Endurance Championship.
