TURNER BMW PREPARES FOR PIRELLI WORLD CHALLENGE COMPETITION IN UTAH

Amesbury, MA. — August 7th 2018 — The No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW heads west to Utah Motorsport Capus following the intense battle at Road America to clinch a fourth place finish this past weekend.

The team now prepares for rounds nine and ten of the GT SprintX as part of the Utah Grand Prix on the 14-turn 3.048-mile road course in Tooele, Utah.

This weekend will mark the first time the Turner Motorsport team has competed in the Pirelli World Challenge GT class since 2016 with the BMW M6 GT3.

“We are excited to go racing with Pirelli World Challenge,” commented Will Turner. “The SprintX format is a fun and a change from what we are primarily used to at this point with the endurance racing of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. We have two very talented drivers who I am excited to get in our blue and yellow BMW so hoping for a successful weekend.”

The team welcomes two new drivers who will pair up this coming weekend behind the wheel of the No. 97 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3. Naoto Takeda and Takuya Shirasaka, both from Japan, tested with the team earlier in the year at Watkins Glen proving to be quick behind the wheel of the Turner BMW.

The driver duo currently runs in the Blancpain GT Series Asia and will be joining the Turner Motorsport team for their debut in North American GT racing. Shirasaka has also competed in Super GT in Japan for the ’13-’15 seasons.

Naoto Takeda commented, “I am very happy to be able to come to the United States to race, I have been looking to do this for a long time and hope this will be a good step in my racing career. I would like to thank Will Turner and the Turner Motorsport team for their warm welcome and their efforts to make this work out. Looking forward to racing with my team mate Shirasaka-san.”

Takeda will be sharing driving duties in the Am class for both GT Sprint X races with teammate Shirasaka who has been busy racing around the world in Japan, Asia and Europe.

“I have had a very busy year racing in Japan, all over Asia, Europe and now in the United States,” said Shirasaka. “I am very much looking forward to racing in the United States with Turner Motorsport and can’t wait to see the team, see everyone soon.”

The duo will kick off on track action on Friday with GT practice followed by qualifying on Saturday morning. The first one-hour long SprintX race of the weekend will take the green flag at 4:45pm PST on Satuday. Race two of the GT SprintX will go green on Sunday at 3:00pm PST.

Live timing and scoring can be found on www.tsl-timing.com for the entire event. Be sure to tune into Turner Motorsport social media to keep up with the Pirelli World Challenge racing action all weekend.
