First Podium: Will Turner SCCA World Challenge T2 Road America 1998

Racing Since 1998

Will Turner founded Turner Motorsport, a specialty BMW parts company, in 1993 and made his professional race start as Turner Motorsport Racing, in a BMW E36 328is in 1998. He and the team have exclusively raced BMWs ever since, winning 9 championships over its 26-year history. In May 2024, Turner Motorsport became the team with more race starts than any other team in the world with the German manufacturer with its 557th race start in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Laguna Seca with their BMW G82 M4 GT3.

Will Turner made his first professional race start in 1998 with a BMW 328is in Topeka, Kansas. The team quickly expanded to a 2-car effort later that season and earned its first race win with Turner at the Scott Brayton Memorial Street Course in Grand Rapids, MI. Bill Auberlen joined the team in a memorable first race at Lime Rock Park in 2001 during which he went from last to first. Auberlen raced in his first full season in 2003 and won the team’s first championship in his rookie season. The team continued its 2-car effort through the 2004 season winning back-to-back Touring Car championships with Auberlen.
