Will Turner founded Turner Motorsport, a specialty BMW parts company, in 1993 and made his professional race start as Turner Motorsport Racing, in a BMW E36 328is in 1998. He and the team have exclusively raced BMWs ever since, winning 10 championships over its 26-year history. In May 2024, Turner Motorsport became the team with more race starts than any other team in the world with the German manufacturer with its 557th race start in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Laguna Seca with their BMW G82 M4 GT3.
Turner Motorsport began racing professionally in 1998 in World Challenge Touring Car. Will Turner earned the first win in Grand Rapids, MI in his BMW 328is.
Will Turner made his first professional race start in 1998 with a BMW 328is in Topeka, Kansas. The team quickly expanded to a 2-car effort later that season and earned its first race win with Turner at the Scott Brayton Memorial Street Course in Grand Rapids, MI. Bill Auberlen joined the team in a memorable first race at Lime Rock Park in 2001 during which he went from last to first. Auberlen raced in his first full season in 2003 and won the team’s first championship in his rookie season. The team continued its 2-car effort through the 2004 season winning back-to-back Touring Car championships with Auberlen.
Turner Motorsport made its debut in Grand-Am in 2005 with a pair of BMW 330s Street Tuner cars in Grand-Am Cup. The team expanded to the Grand Sport class the following year and earned both the ST and GS championships in 2006. The team made its debut in the GT class in 2010 with a BMW M3 at the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Turner Motorsport debuted the Z4 GT3 in the GTD class and won the inaugural IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season with Dane Cameron and Markus Palttala at the wheel. The team also made its return to World Challenge in 2015 with the Z4 GT3 with Bret Curtis and Bill Ziegler. The eighth and ninth championships came in 2023 with Robby Foley & Vin Barletta capturing the GS championship and Francis Selldorff winning in GSX with the M4 GT4. The team currently races in IMSA’s VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, Michelin Pilot Challenge, and WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and SRO’s GT World Challenge America and GT America – all with the M4 GT3 & GT4.
