ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (August 17, 2025) – Turner Motorsport earned podium finishes at Road America, with Justin Rothberg finishing third in GT America and he and Robby Foley taking home second in GT World Challenge America.
Saturday’s GT America race one was plagued by heavy rain and treacherous track conditions. The race started under yellow, and Rothberg maximized the brief three minutes of green flag racing by making two passes. Unfortunately, standing water sent the No. 29 BMW M4 GT3 EVO spinning into the wall. Thankfully, Rothberg was okay, and he collected fifth-place points to maintain the lead in the championship, and returned later that day for the GT World Challenge America race.
The entire Turner team worked quickly to prepare the spare car in time to race on Sunday. Starting race two from fifth, Rothberg fought his way into third, securing a podium finish and valuable points to maintain a strong lead in the championship with four rounds remaining.
In GT World Challenge, conditions improved slightly on Saturday, but track conditions remained a challenge. Rothberg held steady in second place until lightning halted the 90-minute race before Foley had a chance to take over. A newly introduced 5-second time penalty for Rothberg’s driver rating derogation moved the No. 29 back to seventh place. Additionally, because the race time did not reach 50% completion, only half points were awarded.
Foley started race two from fourth and quickly moved up to second. The pit crew executed the pit stop perfectly, and Rothberg took over to manage pro car traffic before a final-lap restart set up a hard-fought run to the finish. The team secured a second-place podium and valuable points to maintain their championship lead.
“We had a pretty good weekend here at Road America,” said Foley. “I’m glad that Justin is okay after a scary incident in the first GTA race. He didn’t much wrong, but that part of the track was basically a lake that took him out. It was a bit of an odd race one in GT World Challenge with it being red flagged and having our five-second penalty that put us back from where we really were on track, but it is what it is. In race two, we just ran a good, clean race. We pitted from P2 in class and finished P2 after the late race restart, so overall, we’re happy with that and got some good points to take into Barber.”
The GT America and GT World Challenge America seasons continues at Barber Motorsport Park in Birmingham, Alabama, from September 5-7.
